Youth Police Academy

2023 Class

The Lockport Police Department is accepting applications for the 2023 Youth Police Academy. Classes are held at the Lockport Police Department on Wednesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Classes will begin on June 21. The last class will be August 2. There will be no class on July 5. 

Purpose

The goal of the class is to give citizens a chance to see how the Police Department operates and how officers are trained to respond to different calls. Officers educate through policy and procedures as well as through experiences. It is an opportunity for citizens to understand and see how police handle certain situations. Some of the topics of the classes include: DUI enforcement, Mock Court case trials, Use of Force, Shoot or Don't Shoot, Traffic Law and Accident Reconstruction, SWAT, and Investigations.

If you are interested in participating, please complete and return the Youth Police Academy Application (PDF) to the Lockport Police Department or via email to communityoutreach@lockportpolice.info After filling out the application a background check will be conducted on each applicant. This is an educational class and does not have any connection to employment. Space is limited.
